Congress Mp Meets Cm Eknath Shinde Hands Over Memorandum On Dharavis Mehboob E Subhaniya Masjid

Congress MP meets CM Eknath Shinde, hands over memorandum on Dharavi's Mehboob-e-Subhaniya Masjid

Congress MP Krupal Tumane met Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday and handed over a memorandum requesting the state government's intervention to prevent the demolition of the Mehboob-e-Subhaniya Masjid in Dharavi, Mumbai.

The mosque, which was built in 1953, is located on a plot of land owned by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).

In 2019, MHADA issued a notice to the masjid committee, asking them to vacate the premises as the land was required for a redevelopment project.

The masjid committee has challenged the notice in court, and the matter is currently pending before the Bombay High Court.

In his memorandum to the Chief Minister, Tumane said that the mosque is a place of worship for thousands of Muslims in Dharavi and that its demolition would cause great distress to the community.

He also said that the mosque is a heritage structure and that its demolition would be a loss to the city's cultural heritage.

Tumane urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter and to ensure that the mosque is not demolished.

The Chief Minister's office has said that it will look into the matter and take appropriate action.
